Fans of ID cards often say, if you’ve done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear. They are naive.

Simean69, you make wild assertions about the video (that people abuse access to data is demonstrably true) and you fantasise about how the ID and other schemes will work in practice. The biographical element of the ID system is to be built on the DWP’s existing database – hundreds of thousands will have access, over a million to ContactPoint and about the same to NHS spine. This is way more than can access the Police National Computer – where penalties and security don’t prevent dangerous abuse.

funkyewan, we’re not trying to scare you or anyone into *opposing* the scheme – we’re using a scary but entirely plausible scenario to get people who think “if you’ve done nothing wrong, you’ve got nothing to fear” (or those who haven’t thought about what ‘ID cards’ will actually mean) to think a little. The government has misled the public again and again about its ID scheme. ‘Take Jane’ is just one thing NO2ID has done. Read our website or get involved with a local group to find out much more.

For the assertion it is critical issue so you do need to know your sources for the assertion with some kind of independent data.

What and become as corrupt as him …. nice one.

  19. wowthungsten on May 9th, 2009 11:34 am

I totally agree with you. The sad thing is, the world doesn’t work that way. If you want people to stop bothering you, you have to hurt them to the point where they get the message. You don’t want it to be that way, but that’s what it is. Some people need to be bludgeoned into good manners. Honesty: a whistle-blower uncovers wrongdoing or criminal activity. Guess whose career is fucked. Not the guys committing the crime. Is that honesty? Gonzales getting away with “I don’t recall.” * 63?

  20. Elephantintheroom01 on May 12th, 2009 10:39 pm

You shouldnt have to be evil to survive nor should honesty and transparency be punished.

I’m not worried about people who have something to hide, i’m worried about the government haveing something to hide, as corrupt and autocratic as they already are!
